The Rosenthal “Romance” pattern was made by the renowned German porcelain manufacturer Rosenthal, and was designed by the Danish artist Bjørn Wiinblad. Rosenthal was founded by Philipp Rosenthal in 1879 in Selb, Bavaria. The company has a long history of collaborating with contemporary artists, designers, and architects to create innovative and avant-garde collections.
The “Romance” (or “Romanze” in German) pattern featured here is a delicate, slightly raised relief pattern of ovals, lines, and dots, creating an elegant, all-white embossed design on fine porcelain. The designer Bjørn Wiinblad  (1918-2006) was a highly influential Danish artist, painter, and designer known for his whimsical and detailed style. Wiinblad was appointed chief designer for Rosenthal in 1957 and maintained a successful collaboration with the company for almost 50 years. His work is characterized by fantasy, intricate ornamentation, and a blend of playful shapes, often inspired by music, theater, and fairy tales. His works are held in major museum collections worldwide, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
