Canadian Painting – Eric Riordon (1906-1948) – Oil on Board – Titled “Sunset”

A Western Canada mountain winter scene – oil on board by Eric Riordon (b. 1906 – d. 1948).  Painting is titled “Sunset” as the sun is setting on the mountains and giving a pink/red glow.

Painting measures:  5 1/2  x  7 1/2 inches.  With frame :  11 inches high  x  12 1/2 inches wide

Riordon was born in St. Catherines, Ontario and moved with his family to Montreal in 1908. He studied at Ashbury College in Ottawa, then McGill university. After studying charcoal drawing for a year at the Ecole des beaux arts in Montréal, he went to Paris in 1932 to pursue his art studies at the prestigious Académie Julian and Grande Chaumière. He travelled and painted extensively in Europe and his work was shown at the Paris Salon (1933-1934).
