Signed lower left.

Yolande Ardissone was born in Normandy in 1927 and was inspired and influenced in works by the great Impressionism artists Gauguin, Renoir and Van Gogh.  She was discovered in 1957 by Wally Findlay and who exhibited her works throughout his U.S. art galleries in New York City, Beverly Hills, Palm Beach & Chicago.

Original labels on reverse – one “SENT Murano, MADE IN ITALY” and the other a “Birks” label as it would have originally been purchased through Birks retail store in Canada sometime in the first half of the 20th Century.

A fantastic single hand carved 19th Century Italian Moor figure measuring 6.5 feet tall.  The Moor is holding a torch and stands upon a 3 footed small pedestal.  The figure is all hand painted and hand carved and dates circa 1860’s.  This particular figure was purchased from a collector who purchased it from Ed Mirvish and it stood as decoration for many years in one of his restaurants on King Street in Toronto.

A colourful work of art by John Morris (1920-1991) – a California artist who painted early scenes of the South of France.  This one depicts a French beach town with several people in period dress walking the boardwalk beside very tall palm trees and many sailboats in the background.  Signed ‘John Morris ’02’ as he would often sign the date of the period he was painting (1902).  Very colourful and bright.

The painting bears a Wally Findlay Galleries label – a prominent art gallery with shops in Beverly Hills, New York, Chicago, Paris & Palm Beach.

A beautifully painted full body portrait of a woman standing by British artist Paul Falconer Poole.  Paul Falconer Poole was a English subject and genre artist of the 19th century who exhibited his first work at the Royal Academy when he was 25.  Great depth in the foliage behind the woman and lovely facial features.  Framed in a heavy gilt wood and gesso frame with R. Jackson & Sons – Liverpool framer’s label on reverse.

Signed and dated 1867 (lower right)

Paul Falconer Poole was largely a self-taught artist, born in Bristol, the son of a coal merchant. He exhibited his first drawings and paintings in Bristol, but in 1829, after an inspirational trip to Italy, moved to London and the following year showed his first work The Well: a Scene at Naples at the Royal Academy. In London he found success in painting dramatic historical scenes, and in 1846 his large canvas Visitation and Surrender of Syon Nunnery (now in Bristol City Museum & Art Gallery) led to his election as an associate of the Royal Academy.

A rare hanging light fixture by René Lalique in the “Dahlias” pattern – large billowing Dahlia flowers in a large bowl shaped fixture which is hung by 4 long ropes that lead to a Lalique glass ceiling cap.

The interior of the fixture has 3 lights.  The pattern was create in 1921 and was not continued after his death in 1945.

An absolute beautiful quality biscuit box in an usual shape.  The box is triangular shaped with rounded corners and conceived sides.  It sits on 3 paw & wings footed stand and the stand is decorated with Shells & flowers with a gadroon edge.  The sides and top are hand chased with florals and the lid bears an family crest of a horse’s head.

The box bears the early mark of T&J Creswick of Sheffield (crossed arrows mark in triangle), but also “Made in England” putting it just around the 1910 -1915 mark before the company was bought out by William Hutton & Sons.  Although there is the possibility that the box is much earlier into the 19th century as the “Made in England” may have be placed later as it crosses over the “crossed arrows” mark.

Box measures:  11 inches long on each of the 3 sides  x 6 inches high.
