A lovely carved and painted Japanese ivory netsuke of a standing man holding a covered urn in his left hand and a knife in his right hand, with a monkey standing in front of him.

A netsuke is a small sculptural object (carved button-like ornament) worn for hundreds of years in Japan as a functional and aesthetic piece and used to suspend articles from the sash of a kimono.

Dates circa 1900

The netsuke is 2 inches tall x 1 1/4 inches wide and is in overall good condition, although there is a slight crack in the back.
